Merthyr RFC currently play in the Championship Division of the WRU. Their existing floodlights were over 20 years old and were only giving them an average illuminance of 180 lux. In order to comply with the WRU standards they needed a minimum of a 300 lux average across the whole playing field. Working closely with Kingfisher lighting we re-designed the floodlighting to meet the requirements of the WRU to ensure that the lighting facilities at The Wern Playing Fields match the new state of the art field that they have in place.

We installed new 18m lighting columns set within 2m cubed concrete bases to take into account the wind factor of the area. We then had to rewire all the lighting and install the new 1350w floodlights.

This was a challenging job working 18m in the air fitting 50kg fittings and also working safely, but the outcome when their switched on is perfect. We also installed a new easy to use panel board for ease of switching on the lights for all that use it.
