During the annual factory holiday period, Fusion has been awarded the contracts to carry out high voltage and low voltage inspections on site.
High Voltage
The high voltage team arrange list of works to carry out over the agreed period where the sites 4 transformers are individually isolated. Oil sampling is carried out on each transformer and sent away to the laboratory for dissolved gas analysis, moisture, acidity, and electric strength tests to be carried out on these samples. We carry out Partial Discharge testing of the 11kV sub stations by the Ultrasonic and the Transient Earth Voltage methods.
The local 11kV/415v transformers and 11kV switchgear are also tested by Ultrasonic equipment, this is also carried out on 4 main LV boards. We examine all high voltage equipment we check mechanical moving parts of the switch gear for effective operation. Transformer pens, and Intake substation are reported on, along with legislations and signage. We carry out routine maintenance on 4 of the LV power factor correction units, and advise on any repairs needed to the systems. All our findings are then documented and reported to the site engineer who decides on the best course of action.
Low Voltage
The low voltage team perform the annual EICR on the agreed section of the site whilst liaising with the high voltage team to ensure the section of the site is to remain energised. Any Periodic Inspection Report should include details of Observations and Recommendations for Actions to be Taken, sometimes referred to as remedial actions. The NICEIC format for reporting observations and recommendations is as follows:
“ Where observations are made the inspector will have entered one of the following codes against each observation to indicate the action (if any) recommended:
Danger present. Risk of injury – requires urgent attention
Many companies that specialise in providing electrical testing services do not carry out remedial works.
These companies will have no interest in carrying out the remedial actions detailed in the Electrical Installation Condition Report and this may act as an assurance to the client that any observations and recommendations detailed will be objective and unbiased.
